Coping was created in fulfillment of the final assignment of a workshop I attended in March 2022 under the guidance of Martin Kharumwa and FOTEA. It derives its inspiration from images of my Aunt posing for photos in what appears to be her bedroom, an Adama Kouyate's portrait of a woman posing with a transistor and old self-portriats of myself taken with long exposure. With these three archival inspirations, i created, with the help of Martin and my classmates, a makeshift studio and created Coping, which is a dpeiction of how some of the young people in Uganda spent the endless free hours that were created by the very first Covid-19 lockdown of 2020.
