Paucartambo is home to biodiversity and multi cultural expressions. In the day of the entry the 19 groups that take part in the festivity of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel come into the town of Paucartambo by different routes. The dance groups belong to an autonomous, permanent organization. The dancers become one single voice and rhythm of praise when the time comes. Their mask and the symbols that adorn their clothes transform the dancers : they are no longer individual or isolated beings, poor or rich members of the community, they are all “soldiers “of the Virgin, who through collective and reciprocal ties seek to renew, year after year, the fervour if the generous Mamamacha, besides complying with their roles in the social structure of Paucartambo.

Each dance group, through the different choreographies, relates mythical or real happenings and affirmations drawn from the collective memory such as the presence of the inhabitants of el Qollau, the local Amazon Andean identification, the integration of the indigenous communities, the disputes and confrontations, the sickness that struck their inhabitants, the abuses of the authorities, the presence of the slaves in the sugar cane haciendas and gold planning activities, the specialization in production of different good or handicraft, and their character and personality of their inhabitants.

Series of photographs taken during the days of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel  festivity about the cultural syncretism in the Peruvian Andes, the Spanish influence mixed with the Incas culture among the years.
