I was on assignment in Berlin this weekend. Outside my commisioned duties i stumbled across this situation to photograph on the way to my event. A runner today in the early morning at the Oberbaumbrücke Bridge crossing the River Spree, Berlin. When the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 the bridge was designated a part of East Berlin's border with West Berlin. All the waters of the River Spree were within the Friedrichshain limits with the East German fortifications extending up to the shoreline on the Kreuzberg side. As a result, the West Berlin U-Bahn line was forced to terminate at Schlesisches Tor (Berlin U-Bahn)Schlesisches Tor. Beginning on 21 December 1963, the Oberbaum Bridge was used as a pedestrian border crossing for West Berlin residents only. #berlin #germany #runner #jogging #riverspree #spree #friedrichshain #kreuzberg #oberbaumbrücke #oberbaumbrückebridge
