I covered the Anti- Vaccine, Anti Corona, so called ‘MegaDemo’ in Magdeburg on Saturday for Getty. I attach here just some observations about these series of rolling demonstrations in Germany from a conversation i had with my friend Charles over on Facebook- by the way I’m personally double jabbed with a booster and have no issue with wearing face masks when required to: It seems to me that unless you want to up the level of violence used by the Police at the behest of the Authorities to almost unimaginable levels these type of decentralized demos- of which there are hundreds every evening across Germany- are unstoppable. It is being weaponized, quite astutely I think, by the right. I think it will run its course when the weather warms and the level of ‘ restrictions’ decline. There becomes, then, very little to push ‘ back’ against. It’s the long view on what should be done- otherwise I think you further radicalize people who attend these marches, they certainly not all Nazi’s, and push them further into the realms of conspiracy theorists and , yes, the far right. Thus amplifying societal problems.
