A Western Screech Owl fluoresces in the dark at the Sylmar wildlife center. The bright colors flashing in the dark reveal new feathers.

For a long time, scientists studied what they believed to be a black dot light years away in the universe. It was not until decades later that that black dot represented the concept of a black hole. That initial black dot is how we are choosing to think about at a common black bird. To humans, a crow or raven is simply black. However, there is little knowledge about how a black bird might view another black bird, and for that matter how a bird might view the world around them. Human eyes have 3 types of cones that make up the color spectrums we see while avian species can have between 4-12 cones. This means there is an entire world of colors and patterns that birds can visualize but humans can only begin to imagine.

Eyes of the Wild uses cutting edge research and technology to try and uncover a new way of looking at the world initially through avian species and if success through insects, mammals and reptiles.
