The following images are from a training and CME course in Mountain Medicine. The Khumbu valley is one of the most beautiful, rugged and harsh landscapes I've ever experienced. The people who live in those mountains have souls just as strong, just as vibrant and just as unforgettable. There is so much to learn from in that land, learn from the people, the mountains, their traditions, their cultures and their profound respect for nature and mother earth. Once stepping foot in that environment it becomes easy to understand the lure of Everest.
The founder of the Everest ER, Dr. Luanne Freer, established the clinic in 2003, which was the 50th anniversary of climbing on Everest. Her love for Nepal and the people in those mountains spurred a project that now saves lives in one of the most remote places in the world. The mission of the Everest ER is to provide altitude-experienced, compassionate, quality medical practitioners and provide education to the climbing community. For the Sherpa community and climbers to know there is help, that is powerful medicine.
