Jorge Luis Alvarez Pupo, Havana 1970.

Pupo has been living in Brazil since 2004 and shares his time between Sao Paulo, Havana and Brussels. He graduated Litterature and English Language, at the University of Havana, Cuba. Graduated photography at the International Institute for Journalism ¨José Martí ¨, Havana, Cuba, Also attending Maine Photographic Workshops.

He’ve interested in subjects such as migrations, religion and identity, he’s used photography as a way to rediscover those topics from a new perspective, sometimes using self-reference as a justification that allows him being part of the speech instead being of the speaker.

Pupo has exhibited his photos in Paris, New York, Berlin, PhotoEspana Madrid, Bern; Switzerland, Havana, Sao Paulo and has publish at Arte Cubano magazine, Fotografía Cubana Magazine, Art Fórum magazine, Paris Photo Magazine and the book “ Mapas Abiertos : Contemporary Latin American Photography 1992-2002”, Barcelona, Lunwerg Editions, 2005
