I am Kanyike Edgar. I am a “self-taught” artist and co-founder of Ugandan NGO: Soul-Xpressions.
Born 25th November 2000, I have grown to find interest in photography and film as an art. Over the period of my teenage years, I experimented and explored a number of themes/styles/topics in my creations/work/projects, some of which include Identity- self-discovery, Environment, Daily life, Portraiture…
When I graduated high school in 2018, I was naturally given the same “dead-end” career options as all the other millions of young graduates in Kampala.
I on the other hand had/have a dream of creating, making art and 4 years ago, I decided to be part of the art scene every way I could. I applied to hundreds of artist trainings, competitions, exhibition, residency calls and grant calls I was eligible for.
Since then, I and my work have been part of exhibitions, residencies and art festivals regionally and internationally, including the prestigious Uganda Press Photo Awards and the KLA ART festival. I have worked, collaborated and been mentored by artists and art organizations/collectives from different spaces and different mediums.
