THULE LINKAGE: NORDIC HERITAGE
Northern Europe borders two Oceans and the Baltic Sea, in older times, when the continent was dominated by Mediterranean cultures, the areas far from "the intermediate sea" were widespread under the name of Nordic regions. In the Middle Ages, the term Thule was used to designate a semi-mythical place at the northern tip of the continent. The Nordic countries have much in common in terms of lifestyle, history, language and social structure: With almost 3.5 million square kilometers of land, more than half of its territory is uninhabitable. Nordic countries obtain the first positions in a large number of global indicators, including education, economy, competitiveness, civil rights, quality of life and human development.
