October 16, 2023- Plainfield, Illinois, United States: Mourners gathered at the Mosque in Bridgeview Illinois to pay respect to 6 year old Wadee Al-Faioumy who was stabbed 26 times and killed over the past weekend in his home in Plainfield. The death is being investigated as a hate crime because the suspect used racial and ethnic slurs while attacking the boy and his mother.

His mother, Hanan Shahin, was in critical condition but is expected to survive.

President Biden said of this incident that “Jill and I were sickened to learn of the brutal murder of a child and the attempted murder of the child’s mother yesterday in Illinois” and offered their condolences to the family in a statement released by the White House Sunday.
