Sebastian and I dancing in my apartment to a live-stream from our favorite club in Berlin. Since Berlin’s clubs had to close their doors due to the coronavirus health crisis, the platform United We Stream was formed to support those clubs, artists and organisers by live-streaming from the empty clubs into people’s living rooms, where they can party safely at home. Lately, I often sit on my window sill and reminisce, as I watch the world outside go by. I feel like everything has changed, and nothing will ever be the same, including myself. The past weeks have taught me to appreciate every little moment more, to wind down and just be, without constantly having to do something.

a l o n e TOGETHER is an intimate self-portrait project, showing my partner and I between togetherness and isolation during the COVID-19 lockdown in Germany. Within the stillness of quarantine, I found myself oscillating between a calming sense of inner peace, and a paralysing feeling of anxiety. Hopes and fears were fluctuating constantly. During these uncertain and frightening times, I found shelter and refuge in my partner’s embrace. Photographing us became a self-therapy, that helped me deal with the heaviness of the unprecedented situation.
