Dengue fever, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, plagues millions in Latin America yearly. Its rise exposes a harsh reality: the link between climate change and social inequality. Tropicalization and rising global temperatures fuel dengue outbreaks. Just decades ago, only 9 countries faced severe epidemics. Today, over 120 nations battle the disease. While dengue affects everyone, its burden falls heaviest on disadvantaged communities. Lack of access to clean water forces them to store water in containers – ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Inadequate waste collection compounds the issue.
Using powerful imagery and dioramas, this project aptly portrays dengue as a symptom of the climate crisis and social inequities.
