Shah Do Shamshera Mosque already. A holy place which is located in the center of Kabul, Afghanistan. Shah Do Shamshera mosque, with two domes, has a history of hundred years. I will write a little about this historical mosque in the following paragraphs.

Shah Do Shamshera mosque is in a crowded place in Kabul. If you visit the place (especially on Friday), you see lots of vehicles, people, vendors, old and new buildings around the mosque. The yellow building mosque or pilgrimage is the first mosque built in Kabul city.

The mosque’s name translates to the Mosque of the King with two swords. The name refers to an Arab army General who was killed when Muslim Arabs attacked Kabulistan in the distant past.

About the Mosque

According to history, when the Muslim army attacked Kabul, Laith Ibn Qays led and commended a section of the Muslim army. The mentioned commander died and was buried at the current place of the mosque. After the conquest, the army performed their first prayer at this place and later built a mosque there.

After the Muslim armies broke the Dehmazang wall, the Liath Ibn Qays fought with two swords during the conquest of Kabul. Therefore, the mosque is called Shah-e Do Shamshera (The king with two swords).

According to history, the mosque had a simple building before the Amanullah reign. Amanullah Khan’s Mother repaired and built the current mosque (1919-1929).

Note: Amanullah Khan’s mother also reconstructed the Ziarat-e Sakhi ( Sakhi shrine) in Karta Sakhi.

Now, the mosque has been attracting national and international tourists. Since it is in the center of Kabul, many Kabul residents come together to pray at this place.

Conclusions

To sum up, Shah-e Do Shamshera mosque, located near the Kabul river in District 2, is an important and beautiful place in the capital of Afghanistan. You can also find the mosque’s image on Afghani money, which shows the importance of this historical place.
