The first beer drinking sculptures of the breweries are up. The largest folk festival in the world, the Oktoberfest (Wiesn), featuring a beer festival and a traveling traveling funfair takes place this year after a two-year Corona break. The setup of the beer tents has begun. The Wiesn is held every year on the largest fairground in Munich, on the Theresienwiese. The pandemic is not over yet and Corona restrictions are not expected at the Wiesn. Virologist Oliver T. Keppler of Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich fears that people from Germany and abroad could cause a corona superspread in the beer tents.
Tradition is held high in the Ochsenbraterei - just as the Bavarian white and blue sky is held high by the hand-painted traditional costume figures in the marquee. What makes the beer tent special is both the culinary offer and the ambience. The tent takes its name from the ox grill, the only one on the entire Theresienwiese since 1881, which also symbolically decorates the tent above the main entrance.

Bavaria, the sunset and the cheerful hustle and bustle of the festival. Inside, the Bavarian Sports Shooting Association holds its traditional Oktoberfest shooting each year, which guests can watch. It is one of the oldest tents at the Wiesn. What was once a small inn for marksmen on the Theresienwiese became the first marksmen's hall in 1876, and from 1926 the Schützenfest tent. After the last reconstruction in 2015, the Schützenfestzelt shines in new splendor and now offers space for a total of 6,278 guests. Although this makes it one of the smaller beer tents, its floor space, including the shooting range, makes it the largest tent at the Wiesn. The Herzkasperl festival tent is located at the Oidn (old) Wiesn. It was first erected in 2010, when this was held as an anniversary event for the 200th anniversary of the Oktoberfest. Since then, the focus here has been on the music and cultural program. The people of Munich love their Oide Wiesn and especially the Herzkasperl festival tent. This is because things are more measured and quieter here than in the tents on the large festival grounds. Many artists also appreciate this, so it's quite possible that you'll spot a familiar face.

A lot of technology is needed to set up the beer tents. A craftsman stands on a work platform with his laptop.
As every year, the Theresienwiese is closed to pedestrians and cyclists during the build-up to the Oktoberfest. A bicycle courier has to go around the large area.
