Private Story
Complex Panoramas
The idea was fairly simple. Occupy the favelas and bring the State into the long forgoten no-man´s land, where informal sheriffs wrote the books and made the laws. However, after a promising start, the five year anniversary of Alemãos PPU´s is not to be celebrated.
The state and its benefits did not come. Only the police, wich stayed, occupying the alleys and streets but not the heart of the people from Alemão. The children that made this drawings were 5 years old when the massive and midiatic operation to retake the Complex happened, on november 2010.
Half a decade later, a teacher asked a bunch of 10 year olds to draw a "panorama", a "landscape" of what their lifes were. The following drawings are the results of that task. Some show the daily life of the community, whie others expose the ambiguities of the pacification process, in which the definition of good and evil begin to intertwine.
