On June 11, 2015 the Orlando Museum of Art will have their opening reception for the Florida Prize In Contemporary Art. I am very honored and humbled to have been invited to participate as the only photographer in this exhibition. Below is a desciption of the exhibition:

The Orlando Museum of Art's Florida Prize in Contemporary Art is an annual invitational exhibition that focuses on the production of contemporary art in the State, while also providing new scholarship with an accompanying exhibition catalog.  Each year the Museum invites up to ten artists for the exhibition based on a criteria of artistic excellence, involvement with significant ideas in contemporary art and a record of achievement shown by a history of exhibitions and awards. The purpose of the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art is to bring a new level of recognition to the State's most progressive artists and to encourage their on-going contribution to the State's cultural vitality.

The work selected by the museum is work I have done for Taking Focus, the non profit that I founded. This will be 22 images from 3 bodies of work; Love for Alyssa, Weed:The Story of Charlotte's Tangled Web, and Keep the Light On. I am greatful to be able to continue sharing  Alyssa's story, and educating those on arthrogyposis. I want to thank Adriana Teresa Letorney so much for her extended edit of the work that now will have images shown from it, and for her continued support.

I am also thrilled that OMA requested to show my new work in progress, WEED: The Story of Charlotte's Tangled Web. I still consider myself in the beginning stages of this work, but the timimg is perect since we are at such a  pivital moment here in the state of FL. I believe in fighting the good fight, and doing the right thing. I have learned so much thus far.I am witnessing the power of this plant, and I know in my heart this is the fight to be had.

Over the past few weeks we have been seeking sponsorship for the images of the medical marijuana project. We have a few more images left for sponsorship available. For further information on becoming a sponsor please go to: Taking Focus.

Thank you,

~ JK
