Firing artillery exposes its position through the sound, smoke, and other signatures generated during the firing process. If artillery pieces fire repeatedly and in close succession from the same location, it increases the likelihood that the enemy's counter-artillery systems will be able to identify and target them accurately. This is because the enemy can use various methods, such as acoustic sensors, radar, or intelligence gathering, to locate the source of artillery fire. To avoid becoming vulnerable to counterattacks, artillery units often practice shoot-and-scoot tactics, where they quickly change their position after firing a few rounds. By moving to different locations, artillery units make it more challenging for the enemy to accurately respond and target them. This helps to maintain a level of unpredictability and reduces the risk of sustaining damage or being neutralized by the opponent's artillery or other countermeasures. Ukranian artillery division supports soldiers in a controffensive on the Zaporizhzhya frontline with M777. The M777 is a highly accurate and versatile weapon. It has a maximum range of 30 km (18.6 mi) when using standard rounds and up to 40 km (24.9 mi) when using rocket-assisted rounds. It can also fire a variety of other types of ammunition, including illumination, smoke, and anti-personnel rounds. The M777 is a powerful weapon that is playing a critical role in the Ukrainian war effort. It is a testament to the effectiveness of Western military aid, and it is helping to ensure that Ukraine can defend itself against Russia's aggression.
