Private Story
Cinema on Ice
Cinema on Ice happened one night when me and a couple of friends and locals went to a special event on the ice. We'd decided offhand to do something special for the village children: late in the evening, we projected the movie Inuk onto an iceberg under the myriad stars and the northern lights. The looks on the spectators' faces fascinated me, so instead of watching the movie, I began using a tripod and long exposure times to discreetly take their photos.
Inuk is a Greenlandic language film directed by Mike Magidson. Inuk covers a journey from Greenland's south to its north as an homage to the origins of the Inuit people. It is the coming-of-age story of 16-year-old Inuk, who was raised in the south in Greenland's capital Nuuk and is torn between the violence of his alcoholic parents and his dreams of creating an Inuit rock band. He is sent to a foster home in the north, where his foster guardian and teacher, Aviaaja, sends him to the bear hunter Ikuma so that he may learn wisdom.
