Unusual Niger Delta
The Niger Delta consists of nine states in the coastal region of Nigeria. The states include all six states in the South South, two states in the South East and one state in the South West.
When it comes to the states in the South South, environmental issues are always the subject of discussion. While these conversations are necessary as the environmental degradation in the region cannot be overemphasised, other interesting aspects of the oil rich region are often overlooked.
In January 2022, I spent a few weeks travelling round the South South.
During my sojourn, I met and spent time with citizens from the region who are thriving and making an impact in the region in their own way.
