Seven years ago Zainab gave birth to her first child, a baby boy. Shortly after giving birth, Zainab haemorrhaged. With the advice of a Doctor, she agreed to take tranexamic acid which helped stop the bleeding. Zainab is convinced that the drug saved her life.

The University College Hospital, (UCH) Ibadan is one of the federal teaching hospitals in Nigeria. It was established by an August 1952 and it is attached to the University of Ibadan. It was a coordinating center for the WOMAN Trial in Nigeria which took place in over 50 hospitals in the country.

By the end of the trial which began in 2010 and ended in 2017, the results from the trial proved that Tranexamic acid was effective for postpartum hemorrhage thus reducing the number of maternal mortality in Nigeria

May 2012, Zainab gave birth to her first child, a baby boy. Shortly after giving birth, Zainab haemorrhaged. With the advice of a Doctor, she agreed to take Tranexamic Acid which helped stop the bleeding. Zainab is convinced that the drug saved her life.

Although Tranexamic Acid has been proven to help stop women from bleeding after giving birth thereby reducing the risk of dying during childbirth, it is still not available in all medical facilities in Nigeria. Read more here.
