Winifrid Luena is a Tanzanian photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is interested in themes of identity, representation and history of East and South African communities. Since 2019 he started to collaborate with young Tanzanian Documentary photographers on different projects aimed at promoting documentary photography practices and archiving the history of swahili community in the city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He won the Absa Latelier award in 2019 and he was an apprentice of Andrew Tshabangu under the studio ‘History is The Home Address’ in Kampala Art Biennale 2020. Currently, he is running 'Striti Za Bongo', a Dar es Salaam based collective of Tanzanians documentary photographers.
