Becoming a Mom recently has allowed me to have a greater appreciation for the struggles my parents faced while raising us in a new country.
It has shown me how resilient and strong they had to be to provide a better future for my sister and I. At a young age I had to translate, and help navigate those systems that were in place to oppress people like us. As we grew up we learned to be resilient not only for ourselves but for others, helping anyone that may have needed help navigating life here in the States.
Slowly we began to build a community of people that knew the struggle. We are here, living, thriving and contributing to society as responsible citizens.
It has made me a passionate advocate for families that are/have lived that experience.
