CATHARSIS; by Zishaan Akbar Latif.
Gerald F. Else states "In real life, men are sometimes too much addicted to pity or fear, sometimes too little; tragedy brings them back to a virtuous and happy mean. Tragedy is then a corrective; through watching tragedy, the audience learns how to feel these emotions at proper levels.”
‘Catharsis’ is a personal visual documentation that purges emotional astrictions to restore and refresh the spirit.
With ‘Catharsis’, I embark on an emotional journey, a past full of doubt, a believable present and an excitingly terrifying tomorrow.
I wish to explore the possibilities of getting answers to some foundational questions about power, love, magic, paradise, empathy, sexuality, need, want or greed.
The single thread of emotion connecting the human race and myself is desire, desire to love or to hate, desire to live or to die, desire to create or destroy, desire is eternal and integral in this process of self discovery and self preservation.
An understanding of the importance of relationships, the crumbling of, the cementing of, the cleansing of… Catharsis describes the result of measures taken to cleanse away blood guilt —"blood is purified through blood" – Burkert.
I wish to showcase a body of work that reflects my state of being, my experience of questioning and gaining answers.
I desire the time, the space to immerse myself into the task of putting together this documentation of importance.
