You’re just being lazy.
You’re not trying hard enough.
Do you even want to get better?
What do you do when everyone around you tells you that it’s all in your head and they’re right? It is all in your head, that’s what a mental illness is. When the chemicals in your brain don’t work the way they’re supposed to what are you to do? You can’t just “get better” or “suck it up.” Would you tell someone with a broken arm that they weren’t trying hard enough to get better?
It’s all in my head.
Looking at the work of Francesca Woodman for inspiration I decided to photograph what physical manifestations of my inner demons would look like, what some of the darker spaces of my mind are like. Like Francesca I used myself as the model for my photographs, the photographs are about my inner struggle so it only made sense to use myself in the photographs.
All images photographed using a Large Format 4x5 film camera.
