I love the city of my birth, but have a complicated relationship with it; I am fiercely proud of being from there, but having not lived there for 23 years, feel like a stranger when I visit. Nor is it even the same city of 'The Troubles' in which I grew up, but yet I cannot help but feel strangely drawn back to it every time I return, however difficult I know living in it would now undoubtedly be.
Conversely, Nicky had never been there, but fell in love with it when she spent four months living and working there two years ago, and has developed a special relationship with the city since then, visiting regularly.
In different ways we are both exiles when we are there, and have decided to blend together our images of the same Belfast seen through different eyes for this takeover. The full set of my blends can be seen here.

Yesterday was a day of good old fashioned postering in local venues, and starting to see some prints emerge for the first time. It never ceases to amaze me how looking at photos on the screen is so radically different from seeing an actual print, and how used we have become to judging images from a backlit computer.
If you're in the area, please come and check it out!

Thanks to the wonderful people at Team Love Ravenhouse Gallery in New Paltz, NY, the first displaying of some photos from the tokyojazzjoints project with writer & DJ James Catchpole, will ironically not be in the country of their birth, but rather in on the east coast of the country that created the music from which these bars and cafes make their meagre livings.
I will be heading from Vancouver for New Paltz on Monday, and Tokyo Jazz Joints will run from August 1st - September 13th.
The opening party is on August 1st from 5-7, so please come down (or up...) and join us!

Tucked away in Chiba's sleepy residential neighbourhoods is Candy, the owner of which has been collecting jazz records since she was a teenager cruising the streets of Shinjuku, and has now amassed a staggering collection over 50 years. To see more of the photos, check out Tokyo Jazz Joints.

Peeps is a new magazine which by its own definition "...is an independent magazine that delivers stories from around the world written by anthropologists immersed in foreign cultures (here and abroad) to bring new perspectives and experiences to your door."
They contacted me some time ago to be involved with a group of photographers asking someone a question about technology and photographing their response. The magazine is ready to go to print, and tantalisingly close to that goal, bar some remianing funding they are seeking through their Kickstarter campaigh.
Fingers crossed to see my work in a full colour page!

Just came back from my first visit to the incredibly chilled, utterly photogenic Luang Prabang in Laos. I shot some images entirely on my iPhone, and am currently editing and uploading to a new page on the site.

The dogged perseverance of Japan's millions of commuters to spend untold percentages of their lives on trains every day, is matched only by the ability to remain so completely soporific and carve out their own psychological personal space while squashed for hours into the most claustrophobic and cramped conditions each morning and night. As a driver, I ride the trains infrequently, and as a result when I do - ostensibly in off-peak hours whenever possible - I can barely wait to escape from their weary winding through the underground tunnels of the Tokyo metropolis.

A random street snap on the iPhone from last Saturday in Tokyo. The first of more I am thinking...
I'm planning to reshoot a street project (images 1-6) from the tengu festival in my local neighbourhood 3 years ago tomorrow, and then compare and contrast the results.
