“Machismo” is the characteristic of believing in male superiority, and most of all, it's a way of life in patriarchal societies. In Latinamerica, “machismo” restricts liberty and it’s an unfortunate trait to deal with when making life decisions that "need" to be approved by the father. “Machismo” can reach “marianismo” and misogyny, and thus perpetuate the Third World society.

I portray barbershops in this series as a cult of “machismo” in Latin America, where it is contradictory for a man to seek physical aesthetics, but still want to maintain their virility. Not only can it be considered as a source of metrosexuality, it’s also interesting that now many of the barbershops in Guatemala are frequented and owned by transexuals and transvesties, who rejected their biological masculinity in the first place.
