Public Story
Vernacular Puerto Rico
This ongoing body of work began as a form of reconnection with my homeland, I began documenting the architecture and quickly gravitating towards domestic, vernacular structures that exude the strongest feelings of commonness and familiarity to all of us raised in Puerto Rico, realizing that it is houses that have the greatest presence in the life of human beings and viceversa. The project often presents a personal struggle, between formal documentation of a type of structure bound to disappear over time, and an effort to collect and compose the poetics generated by the unpretentiousness and informal thought that vernacular architecture provides.
