Cortona On The Move is looking for interns and support staff! Among various options we seek an Exhibition Coordinator assistant who has competence in graphic design and video editing to help during the production phase.
The great Italian comic actor Antonio De Curtis, stage-name Totò, said that making people laugh is far more difficult than making them cry. Transferring this concept to photography one could say that the portrayal of drama, suffering or tragedy is easier than portraying happiness.
On this premise, our Happiness ONTHEMOVE prize was introduced to the festival as the in-house competition in partnership with Consorzio Vino Chianti (Chianti wine producers' consortium) and with the media partnership of Pagina99. For this contest, all photographers are charged with the task of documenting happiness, the joy of life and the beauty that surrounds us while boldly challenging the old truism which claims "no news is good news".
It's not by pure chance that we talk about extreme challenges. In this image-obsessed, social-media age we have created, happiness has been devalued to a mere stereotype. A sort of contrived theatrical, or situational comedy depicting subjects for the pure vision of others, in an endlessly repeatable series of clichés. in an endlessly repeatable series of clichés.
The challenge of Happiness ONTHEMOVE is to find stories that explore the deeper aspects of happiness. Everyday stories. Stories that at first glance seem quite ordinary, but which nevertheless make us smile and give us glimpses of the realistic happiness of life: not always easy, not always visible. Above all - never banal.
The winning entry, selected by an international jury, will win 5.000 euros and will be exhibited at Cortona On The Move 2018.

Cortona On The Move is at its 7th edition this year. To honour the path we have taken, we want to give new life to our call for submissions. We have partnered with LensCulture to create a free open call that seeks to attract original documentary works from all over the world.
We are looking for work that will amaze us.
New Visions stands for the quest for the ever-changing grammar of photography. As a language, photography is in continuous flux and it needs to adapt to the changes in society and culture in order to keep communicating a strong message and to offer new emotions.
In the new spirit of “on the move”, we will value the originality of style and language with which the works have been conceived and created. Concept and execution go hand in hand, and the output should strive, like a lingua franca, to reach a broad audience.
We are seeking documentary works that are conceived with an honest intention and do not fear experimentation.
Now into its seventh edition, Cortona On The Move international photography festival will be hosting some of the world's leading photographers, from grand masters to young talents, in a full program of exhibitions, events and portfolio reviews by experts, plus some exciting new initiatives.
Photography exhibitions and related events will enliven the historic Tuscan hilltown of Cortona - a renowned center of arts and culture - transforming it into a grand showcase of contemporary photography.
Visitors to the town will be able to see hundreds of images while pondering the issues of our time and discovering more about the world we live in - and probably about themselves as well. The images will be displayed in some of the town's most suggestive and atmospheric locations which are exclusively opened up for the duration of the festival.
