Vulnerability is an emotional state that Kevin J Mellis, as a Medical Social Worker in the emergency department, am quite familiar with. As it’s not appropriate for him to take images of his experiences while working with each of the families, he, as an alternative, decided to create a series of images that evoke a deep sense of vulnerability. Using his large format 8x10 view camera, along with black and white analogue film, he created this series while working alongside David Alan Harvey, (National Geographic and Magnum Photographer) during his New York City workshop this past May 2016. His fellow participates were very helpful with assisting me with this artistic exploration.
