About
Kate Tarini is a Toronto born artist/photographer, living and working in Hamilton. She is currently working on a studio based PhD out of the University of Western Ontario. Her current project is focusing on the architectural, cultural and social space of the archive and its effect on our relationships to objects, history and monuments to the past. She is interested in architecture and creativity and the influence of structure on the function of spaces. Devoid of any people her photographs move the viewer into examining our relationship to spaces and their functioning.

Working with the equipment of the landscape photography tradition, Kate employs the large format camera to examine architectural interiors and exteriors to a grand scale. The scale of the negative allows for greater detail to be produced and examined. Kate’s work hopes to balance the aesthetics and theory of art production. She wants to encourage the creation of beautiful images as well as a critical mind.
