This is the first big show of the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei in Vienna.

His temporary installation "Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads" took place in Vienna, in 2016. The Chineese contemporary artist and activist was present with strong works.

Migration as a personal experience and social focus as well as the encounter of different cultures are major topics in Ai Wewei's work. This is even more evident in a floating sculpture that complements the exhibition "Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads" at the Belvedere. "F Lotus" looks at first glance like a decorative orchid in the pond. However, should the visitor have the opportunity to see from a birds'-eye view, he could recognize a calligraphic F consisting of 1,005 lifejackets - a clear reference to the current refugees situation.

Here are some impressions of this monumental open air exhibition at the Belvedere castle.
