A long term study of the common landscape plant, the hosta. My goal was to transform through photography how the plant looks, or show unusual aspects of it from early spring to late fall. By doing so, I hope to open the viewers eyes to their surroundings and develop an appreciation of unnoticed things in them and their photographic potential. The project should be seen as a fine art project, having been inspired by Paul Caponigro's year long study of the sunflower and Edward Weston's studies of flora. They have won numerous awards, such as First Place in PX3 and the International Photography Awards (the Lucies) in 2008 and 2009, and a gold award in B&W magazine's Single Image Contest, to name a few.
