Edward Torres

Edward Torres is a New York City born-and-bred photographer who finds inspiration all over the city. In his work, he seeks to look at life through his camera's  lens and tell stories. His work is unique in its realness; in a world where it seems that everything is Photoshopped, his work is un-altered and true.
    Prior to photography, Edward took note of music and graffiti, and the passion and creativity he observed in those mediums. He especially appreciated the effort and ingenuity artists put into their murals, and continues to be inspired by what he sees and hears.
    As a photographer, Edward is largely self-taught. In high school and college he studied print production and preparation. Though he took a photography course at F.I.T, he found his greatest learning experiences came, in his own words, through "mistakes and spoiled rolls of film …that did it for me... …you see what works, and why". During the early nineties, his interest in the medium was sparked during his work for a social services agency in Brooklyn Heights. While traveling around the city as part of his job, he began to take notice of the interesting images he saw. He started small, with a point-and-shoot camera, seeking and finding inspiration in the ordinary. Today, he continues to document life in the city, always seeking "that certain moment I feel can be art...…the daily events are what touches me".
    Edward hopes others will see his work as important and memorable, but also fun. As he  plans for future exhibits and shows of his photographs, he is also branching out into film.
