The European Maccabi Games are actually the Jewish Olympic Games with rich accompanying programme. It is the biggest Jewish meeting in the world. It took place in Berlin 2015 from 28th July to 4th August. There were 2300 participants from 37 countries staying at the biggest German hotel Estrel in Berlin quarter Neuköln with the largest muslim community. 300 volunteers from all over the world were accommodated in flats or houses. 3000 medals were prepared so almost everybody gained minimum one of them. The participants were competing in 19 events. EMG take place every four years in one of European city and between them always in Jerusalem. There were strict security rules but everything turned out well without any incident.
There applied 450 volunteers but only 300 were chosen. Volunteers could choose any position. I was chosen as one of four field journalists there. I took photos and wrote short texts about events. The evening ceremony with volunteers took place in the large hall at Estrel hotel in Berlin. We also had very rich kosher breakfast, lunch and dinner there and also in Olympiapark where almost all disciplines were running. The Olympiapark was built for Hitler´s Olympic Games in 1936 and Jewish sportsmen and sportswomen weren´t allowed to compete there. The Olympiapark tourist guide was very happy there are EMG, because the area is rather quiet and almost without any activities. Our Social Media Team was placed in Goebbels´s former nazi minister residence. 500 juniors visited concentration camp in Sachsenhausen near Berlin. My father was also imprisoned there so I accompanied them and took some photos and recognized where my father was working as a slave. EMG opening ceremony was in famous Waldbühne amphiteathre with a lot of guests. For instance the German president Gauck and the American Jewish singer Matisyahu. It started with the parade of all national teams. It was my second EMG. I helped also in Vienna in 2011. I was the only volunteer from the Czech Republic in Berlin.
