Several thousand people took part in a demonstration of the "Wir sind alle Linx" (We are all left) alliance in Leipzig yesterday, in order to oppose the overall social tendency towards the right with broad-based solidarity, one week before the federal elections. Another reason are several court cases against alleged militant anti-fascists, which began last week. Particular prominence from the "Antifa East Complex" gained Lina E., who was prejudged by extreme right to conservative newspapers. She is said to have acted with violence against Neo-Nazis.
The demonstration commemorated the hundreds of victims of right-wing violence. There were also greetings from and to imprisoned antifascists. "People who do not fit into a right-wing worldview are automatically at the mercy of right-wing violence. Anti-fascists find the violence of the Nazis and meet it to protect themselves and others," said Ada Hummel, press officer of the "Wir sind alle Linx" alliance. The equation of right and left is a mockery of all victims of right-wing violence, Hummel continued.
Immediately after the start of the demonstration, pyrotechnics were burned almost without a break. Police were deployed with numerous forces, but remained at a distance at first. A helicopter circled low over Leipzig.
From the central part of the demonstration, rockets, stones, pyrotechnics and paint were thrown at the Dimitroff police station. On Karl-Liebknecht-Str. individuals threw stones at banks. At Connewitzer Kreuz, the demonstration was dissolved.
Subsequently, numerous black-masked activists built barricades on Wolfgang-Heinze-Str. and set them on fire. Police officers who approached were repeatedly driven away with stones and pyrotechnics. Then police used three water cannons to disperse the crowd. There were several brutal arrests. At least once, police beat a person who was running away until he was lying on the ground.
Journalists were also insulted and threatened by police officers. Videos on Twitter show insults. Shoving reporters is also a common occurrence with police in Saxony.
