Belonging is a strong and inevitable feeling that exists in human nature. To belong or not to belong can occur due to choices of one's self, or the choices of others. For the Ballet Folklórico de Staten Island is something they choose to express through traditional dances. Some forms of expression are inherited or learned, and they can transcend borders and generation.

A posture from Oaxaca and Guerrero is passed and expressed in a church basement in Staten Island by Manny, an American born young-adult finding identity between his roots and the place he was born.

I followed the Ballet Folklórico de Staten Island during the celebration os the Guelaguetza across New Brunswick, New Rochelle, Poughkeepsie, Brooklyn and Staten Island in 2017.
