My home is a farm in East Iceland. I immigrated to Iceland 15 years ago. I teach at a small countryside school called, “ Brúarásskóli.” These photographs are of my students. By taking pictures of my home, job place and new family I am documenting a path in life I never planned or expected.
In 2005 I married an Icelander and moved to a farm in the Eastern part of Iceland. This was not in my plans. I had been living in Boston and working as a teacher for most of my adult life. I met my husband while on a three day visit to Iceland during Thanksgiving break. Iceland was not on my list of places to travel.
Learning a new language, creating a new home, and adapting to a culture far away from Boston has come with its challenges. But I look at the gains since arriving. A great man, who´s incredibly supportive. A strong allience with Icelandic women both at work and in the arts. And a calm and peacefullness the likes of which I have never known.
