Cham Junglas, 29, rests her head against the door as she works through her labor pains for the home birth of her second child, Theodore, on August 12, 2018 in Grand Rapids, MI. Junglas felt that the hospital experience of her first labor removed her from the intimate experience of birthing her child. "Everything then was a blur," says Junglas in Tagalog. "Now, I really want to be present for this experience." Although Junglas is part of the growing rate of mothers opting for home births, only less than 1% of all births in the US are outside of a hospital.
