For International Women’s Day, I’m so pleased to announce a new collaborative project with these truly inspirational women, funded by the National Geographic Society. The project, titled “Fish Outlaws” will document the criminalization of Indigenous fisheries in the Salish Sea and work with community partners to imagine just futures.

Through a combination of storytelling and research, the project is co-led by myself, Rena Priest - a poet and writer from Lhaq’temish (Lummi) Nation, Lauren Eckert - a conservation scientist and Dr. Andrea Reid - an Indigenous fisheries scientist from Nisga’a Nation.

I can speak on behalf of all of us that we are very excited to be working on this important under-told story together, throughout 2021.

Happy International Women’s Day!
