In coastal Asia, cats are everywhere: hunting in alleys, relaxing in temples, and quite possibly sleeping in a basket between the daikon and bok choy at the market. Cats live among people, not as pets, but as members of society with a job to do -- eating scraps and dealing with the potential rodent problem. Cats are as much a part of life as noodles and humidity.
