About
Based in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina, Pearson Ripley is a documentary photographer and multimedia storyteller.

The long-term focus of Pearson’s practice is the relationship between psychoactive drugs, and society, culture and policy. His current projects are involved with the multi-faceted practice of harm reduction. The primary concern of his work is to address damaging stereotypes and long-established stigma that targets people who use drugs. Importantly, his work avoids a blind fixation on addiction and harm, considering the intersection of psychoactive substances and humanity in all of its complexity.

Before arriving at this concentration, Pearson’s past projects focused on immigration and global health. That work earned him Nikon’s inaugural Storyteller’s Scholarship as well as recognition from the Magenta Foundation and support from the North Carolina Arts Council.

Pearson lives and works in Asheville, North Carolina.
