The incomparable country of Turkmenistan. On the border of the new, the shiny, the developing and the old, the earthly, the historic. Traditions created anew coexist with a closed off economy to tightly hold an emptiness and obedience among the population. Build on the desert a soviet existence is surplanted by a capitalistic drive to grow. Turkmenistan, maybe more than most places in the world, exemplifies the duality of modern existence and development.
