Speaking on national French television on Monday July 12th, Emmanuel Macron, announced new measures to combat the Covid-19 contaminations. The president presented new rules that makes France one of the most restrictive countries in Europe. Restaurants, bars and cinema’s now require a (very) recent negative PCR test or a document, digital or psychical, that shows the bearer to be fully vaccinated. Health care workers are now required to have been inoculated twice or be struck off if refusing to do so. It did not take long before people started to show their discontent, especially on social networks. People took to the streets on July 14th, France’s national holiday, that celebrates the storming of the Bastille in 1789 and triggered the French revolution.

The protests risks to coalesce the gilets jaunes, the yellow vests movement, and anti vaxxers together with the black block, known as antifa into a new current of discontent and violence.

The story is ongoing.
