In an anonymous house in one of Lahore's oldest neighbourhoods a small group of volunteers are offering women and children safety and practical help to escape abusive relationships.

An estimated 5,000 of the women threatened by domestic violence in Pakistan every year die, and thousands more suffer life changing injuries, violence, acid attacks and marital rape.

Dastak, a privately-run women's shelter, provides housing, skills training, and legal assistance by working with a nearby law firm, to women facing domestic violence and threats from relatives.
