Private Story
Nomad family
The Qashqai nomads are one of the best-known Iranian nomadic lineages. These nomads spend the summer in the northern areas of Fars and winters in the south-east of the region.
A part of the Qashqai, in recent years, has moved to villages and cities, while a part still leads a nomadic life.
For decades, Iranian nomads have resisted modernity thanks to isolation and traditions rooted in their society, yet drought, urbanization, internet and the increase in higher education have reduced the nomad population.
It is mainly women who press for a sedentarization, because they live a hard life: they cook, make bread, milk, make yogurt and cheese, help their husband in pastoralism and weave fabrics and carpets.
Even the young are attracted to the cities and the possibility of a less harsh and uncertain life,
many of these dream of changing their lives by focusing on manual skills and tourism.
