JESSICA ORELLANA
SALVADORAN PHOTOJOURNALIST

Graduated in Journalism from the University of El Salvador. Ten years have passed since she became interested in the world of photography, a profession in which she has accumulated enriching experiences working on issues of gender, violence, health, education, historical memory, migration, among others. She currently works as a photojournalist at El Diario de Hoy.
 She has experience in digital media such as Diario Digital ContraPunto/ContraPuntoTV. She collaborates as a freelance in international media such as Thomson Reuters Agency, Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the Spanish newspaper El País, and magazines such as Foreign Policy. In addition, he worked with agencies such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In 2017 she won the Latin American award for The Jobs and the Days in the category Women Working. In addition to participating in Latin American Festival of NATIVE Agency with the collaboration of the University of San Francisco in Ecuador. I was part of the Women Photograph Workshop 2019 in Quito. I have attended workshops for coverage in Ambiente Hostil Mexico, El Salvador and Ecuador.
 I have received a scholarship from the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) on women's rights and LGBTIQ+ communities in Latin America. Currently she has covered the pandemic in El Salvador giving daily news coverage and topics including the impact of the pandemic on the environment and human stories.
She is also part of the Encovid-19 Women's Collective in Latin America. Her work has also been taken up by Fotografas LATAM, a platform for the diffusion of Latin American women photographers.
She was selected with a scholarship by the Escuela Fuera de Foco of Peru to attend the workshop "Visual Anthropology" with Liliana Fernandez, Peruvian anthropologist with a degree in Linguistics and a master's degree in Anthropology from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos with her thesis "Identity construction of the young Ashéninkas of Gran Pajonal
in the XXI century.

For 2020 she has been invited to participate in the Mirar Distinto Virtual 2020 Festival as a speaker at the table "Photojournalistic coverage of COVID-19 in Latin America".

First place in the Journalism Award Europe Cooperates 2020: Pandemic of COVID-19 in El Salvador 2021 given by the Delegation of the European Union in El Salvador.

Co-founder of Imprudencia Colectiva, first collective of women photographers in El Salvador.
