The 2019 GUILD Mentorship Open Call for Visura Storytellers

An opportunity to receive mentorship and career development consultation and support from the Visura team and its extended professional network for a mutually agreed upon time. The GUILD mentorship is designed to recognize, empower and connect early-stage professional visual storytellers with media professionals, publishers, designers, leaders, computer engineers, scientists, researchers, grant writers, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs worldwide.

  • GENERAL CHECKLIST
  • • All submissions are made via a “Project” created from your Visura dashboard 
  • • Projects may be ongoing or a recently completed 
  • • Image size: minimum 1600px on the longest dimension(22.5 inches @ 72 dpi, JPG format)
  • • A description of the proposed project in no more than 250 words
    • A description of what you would like to accomplish during the mentorship & tentatives dates that work for you between 1-6 months
  • • Two entries allowed per person
  • • Projects may be 'published' or 'private' within the Visura system
  • • There is no entry fee during the application process.
  • • There is no deadline for applications; an invitation to become a participant will be awarded on a rolling basis.

About the 2019 GUILD Mentorship Open Call for Visura Storytellers


This open call is an opportunity to receive mentorship and career development consultation and support from the Visura team and its extended professional network. Participants must be early-stage visual storytellers, business owners or entrepreneurs working in all aspects of any the following industries: media, journalism, art, culture, travel, public health, business, technology, entrepreneurialism, and education. Visual storytellers include photographers, journalists, documentary filmmakers, and designers looking to learning ways they can efficiently manage their online presence and connect with career opportunities.


Who can submit:  Visual storytellers working as art and documentary photographers, photojournalists, journalists, documentary filmmakers, as well as photo editors, designers, and entrepreneurs worldwide. All Applicants must have an active STANDARD, PLUS or PRIME membership account to submit for consideration.
 
Submission to Visura Grants and Open Calls are free for our members. If you are not a current member of Visura and would like to be considered for this grant and other opportunities, please explore the options to join us. Please note that while we encourage new members to join Visura (review costs), we actively discourage photographers from joining the paid levels for the sole purpose of applying to this grant.

What to submit: Each Entry consists of a project made up of a series of images (minimum of 15 images, maximum 35) or a video (max duration 10 mins), a short synopsis and description of the proposed project in no more than 250 words and a description of what you woud like to accomplish during the mentorship.



NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. Open only to individuals who are Visura Annual Members with an active STANDARD, PLUS or PRIME  annual membership, have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction at the time of entry. Employees of FotoVisura Inc and related parties are ineligible. Each entry consists of a project(s) entry form, a series of photographs or a video, a project summary, and a first-person narrative related to the work.  There is no deadline for applications; invitation to become a Fellow will be awarded on a rolling basis.  Two entries allowed per person. This is a merit-based contest and chance plays no part in the determination of winners. Odds of winning depend on numbers of entries received and skill of entrant. The GUILD Mentorship Program for Visual Storytellers is an opportunity to receive mentorship and career development consultation and support from the Visura team and its extended professional network for a mutually agreed upon time. Through mentorships and consultations, the mentorship program is designed to recognize, empower and connect early-stage professional visual storytellers with media professionals, publishers, designers, leaders, computer engineers, scientists, researchers, grant writers, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs worldwide.

Each participant will be paired with one or more mentors from Visura's team and its extended professional network. The pairing will vary depending on the proposal in the application. Once the mentorship is completed, each participant will receive an invitation to join Visura's GUILD curated database of professional visual storytellers worldwide.

A section of Visura's Career Development Program, the GUILD mentorship is an invite-only opportunity and only possible thanks to the leaders and organizations that are looking to support this program. To be considered for the program, you must be a Visura member and you can either: 1) submit to an open call; 2) or be directly invited by Visura founders Adriana Teresa or Graham Letorney Letorney. There is no deadline for applications; invitation to become a Fellow will be awarded on a rolling basis. 

OUR MISSION


The GUILD mentorship has a multi-tiered mission to: 

1) Support and assist in the development of an online presence, including but not limited to editorial and design support when building a personal or business website using the Visura's platform;

2)  Support the development of an ongoing or recently completed personal project or business for a website or online presentation;

3) Offer guidance and support on how to manage your work, time and business as a freelancer, entrepreneur or small business owner. Foster discussions around entrepreneurialism today, including the challenges of building a startup company in media.

4) Foster discussions and provide guidance around matters related to the business and marketplace of visual media, new and existing technologies and platforms, multimedia and event production, partnership strategy, budgeting, and grant writing.

The Visura team may award a paid opportunity. During the GUILD mentorship, one or more of the participants may receive a paid opportunity to assist with the development of a specific project for the Visura platform, according to their expertise and interests. In deciding what to work on—each will have the option to select from a range of projects including research and interviews on the landscape of the media industry today, the business of visual media, existing technologies and platforms, multimedia production, and event production.
