h. UPPA STATUS
UPPA was conceived in 2012 with support from Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda (FCAU) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) with the initial purpose of promoting and supporting photojournalism in Uganda. Over the years its function has expanded to encompass more of an educational role by providing photography trainings, portfolio reviews and a host of other activities geared towards fostering a new breed of visual storytellers in Uganda.
This expansion necessitated the establishment of the FOTEA Foundation in 2016 as an umbrella organisation to support the growing capacity, with UPPA being the major of its satellite activities, along with the Young Photographers’ Award and the Emerging Photographer Mentorship Programme and East African Photography Award.
