Dogs stand guard in front of a fisherman's shelter, built between two communist era defensive bunkers, in the Vjosa delta. Fishing along the river still plays a part in local economies and has already been negatively impacted by unsustainable practices such as dynamiting and the use of large nets. Locals told me every year they're pulling fewer fish out of the river. The construction of large dams on the Vjosa would be detrimental to species that migrate along its route to spawn.
