Letter of motivation:
My name is Leslie Moreno Custodio, I’m a peruvian photographer and journalist. I cover social issues focused on the environment, human rights and indigenous communities. As a new photopgrapher, my short experience has led me to use various tools to call for reflection around those topics.
An issue that grabbed my attention in the last years is how the indigenous communities living in the high Peruvian Andes have been dealing with the consequences of climate change, a lack of government support, and the loss of their principal livelihoods. I have met indigenous people that face these problems, and now I would like to explore the perspective of the young people that live there. That is the reason why I’m interested in the call for The International Environmental Photography Lab, with focus on climate change.
I consider that opportunities, as this mentoring program from Native Agency, Grün Berlin, Neue Schule für Fotografie Berlin and Kigali Photo Center, help to expand diversification and give voice to communities that are underrepresented. Also, I think this lab would streghten my work and help me to define my own voice. I hope to be part of this program,
Thank you for your consideration,
Leslie Moreno Custodio
